Easter weekend and Hayden's hair!

We had a really fun Easter weekend. On Saturday we went to Mike's mom's for an Easter egg hunt and a yummy ham dinner. We have been having practice egg hunts at home all week so Hayden would be ready for the real thing on Saturday. He did great at home, running around laughing collecting all of the eggs, but on Saturday he stopped at the first egg he found and was so fascinated by it. We had to push him to find more, and his little cousins kept bringing him some for his bag. On Sunday he looked so cute in his new outfit. I have been wanting to buy him a belt and he was so proud of it because it looked liked his daddy's. He kept showing it to us after we put it on him. Grandma and Grandpa Barbour came over for dinner and spoiled Hayden! On Saturday, I decided to give Hayden a little trim. I just used the scissors and snipped a little here and there. I am not saying it was perfect, but I didn't think I did too bad. So, afterward Mike was making fun of me a little because it was a bit choppy... and then on Sunday my mom and dad were making fun of me too! My dad says "I have a beard trimmer, we could use that on him to fix it," so I thought, Mike has a beard trimmer, I will get that out and even it up a little bit. On Monday morning I got it out and started in the back. I was actually impressed at my work. Then I started to work on the top... all of the sudden a strip of hair just shaved off. I don't know what happened! It was awful! No matter what I did to fix it it just got worse. I was about to cry! He looked like a little old man who had a horseshoe shaped receding hairline. The picture above does not do the damage to his hair justice, but you can kind of see it. It was so bad I ended up borrowing clippers from a friend and we just had to shave him bald! I feel so bad. He is so sweet though, he has no idea what he looked like and was just as happy as can be through the whole process. I will never ever cut his hair again. We have been calling him baldy, so now he is repeating us saying "bawdy," and touching his head. He is so darn cute... even with a bald head!

One of my dream trips!

I have a short list of places that I would like to visit in my lifetime... most of which I thought would be years before I would ever go. Most trips like these are planned in advance, however, in our case we found out and planned a trip to New York City and Washington D.C. in about two days, unexpectedly. Mike was asked to go to a conference for work in Baltimore, Maryland, next month - so we figured we better take advantage of his free flight and hotel in Baltimore. New York is only three hours away and D.C. is less than an hour away. We will be in D.C. during the blooming of the cherry trees, so I am sure it will be beautiful there. I am so excited, overwhelmed, and also shocked at how much places can charge to stay at their hotel. I have found some pretty crappy places in New York, they are a great price, but I am not willing to possibly not return home after our trip because some one can see that we are obviously not from New York, so they decide to steal all of our money and stuff us in the trunk of a car and then drive it off the Brooklyn Bridge. OK, I got a little out of hand, but you know what I mean. We will have Hayden with us too, so we will be limited a little bit on what we can do. I would totally be going to the the "People's Court," if he was not there. Yeah, yeah, make fun of me all you want. While Mike is at his conference Hayden and I will be roaming Baltimore, using the mass transit systems, so hopefully I don't get us too lost. That is scary to think about. I can just see us ending up in a bad part of town, and not knowing what to do. Another one of my worries is our plane rides. I hope there are nice people and airline staff on the plane because Hayden is not going to sit for hours. I guess I ended this with all of my worries, but I know that we will have so much fun! It better be fun because we aren't going to have any money to do anything fun for a long time after this!

A "Pi" Party for Math's fav number

I had a "Pi" party today to celebrate the math number 3.14, the party was on 3-14 and started at 3:14! Pretty clever, huh. I wish I could take credit for it, but I can't. I had some friends over and they all brought their favorite "Pi" and the recipe to go along with it. There were so many different kinds, and they were all yummy. I have some great recipes to try, but not for a while, because I am kind of "Pi'd" out! Mike even joined in on the celebration and took an apple pie to work!

Stupid people..who ever you are

I am annoyed, and it takes a lot to annoy me (hee! hee!). I have been getting text messages on my cell phone from all these random people I don't know telling me that "so and so" has a crush on me...it is just spam e-mail trying to get me to go to their web site. Some how my phone number has gotten on a mass list. Although that is annoying, it is not the really annoying part. This morning at 2:30 am, 5:21 am, 5:29 am, and 5:30 am I received these lovely text messages. I was so fuming mad. At about 5:31 am, I was on the computer trying to find how to stop getting the texts. I put my name on a do not call list so we'll see how it goes. I can handle the ones during the day, still annoyed, but it is at least bearable....but come on people, for the love, do not do it in the middle of the night! The other crappy thing is I don't have text messaging in my plan so every one I receive and send I have to pay extra for. Whew..... I am glad that is over I have been fuming about it all day long. Have a nice day.

Mike was in heaven...and Hayden too.

On Sunday we made ribs for dinner. I have a "Top Secret" cookbook, which has recipes from restaurants, etc, and we love the "Tony Roma's Carolina Honeys" I have to say they were pretty tasty, and I am not a big meat eater. Hayden couldn't get enough of them- he didn't want to eat anything else we had with the ribs. The BBQ sauce is what makes them so good, and it is also great with chicken. BBQ Sauce 1 cup ketchup 1 cup vinegar 1/2 cup molasses 1/2 cup honey 1 tsp. liquid smoke 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp. garlic powder and onion powder 1/4 tsp. Tabasco sauce Combine all of the ingredients in a sauce pan over high heat. When mixture comes to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered. In 30-45 minutes when the mixture becomes thickened remove from heat. If you make the ribs, put the meat into foil, smother with the sauce, and seal foil around meat. Cook at 300 degrees for about 3 hours, or until done. Don't overcook! Remove the ribs from the foil and give them another douse of sauce. Grill the ribs on the BBQ for 2-4 minutes per side, then enjoy!

Sick = Boring Mommy and Daddy

Hayden was sick... and then he gave it to Mike and I. We've had sore throats, stuffy noses, achy bodies and coughs this past week. To recover from our ails we have been taking it easy, which means being boring to a 19 month old. So, Hayden had to find different ways to entertain himself. One day he decided he wanted to put his daddy's socks on (he has a thing with socks). The picture does not do justice for how funny he looked with them pulled clear up his legs. We got a good laugh (I think it helped us feel better for a while!). Another day he walked around with his fingers up his nose... and the more times I told him that was "yucky" the more fun he thought it was, so I gave up. He is a hoot. Never a dull moment with him around, which is why we love him so much.

I am tired

It all started Friday night when I went over to Jenger’s house for a girl’s night party. I stayed there until 3:00 am… I haven’t been up that late in a long time. We all had a good time laughing, eating and talking all night long. The next morning, after only sleeping four hours, I was woken up by my sweet Hayden. Mike was already up, so I was hoping he would get Hayden out of bed, but he didn’t hear him, so I sluggishly got him, gave him a bowl of dry cereal (so he could walk around the house with it) and I went and laid on the couch. Poor Hayden. I was so tired that I should have just relaxed on Saturday, but no, I filled my day up with things, thinking I would go to be early Saturday night and try to sleep in. That didn’t happen. Then on Sunday afternoon Hayden suddenly became sick. He had a high fever and was throwing up, a raspy cough and a runny nose. Sunday night I hardly slept because he was up with a fever all night and just plain didn’t feel good. First thing Monday morning I took him to the doctor. He has croup. Unfortunately this is viral, so there was nothing the doc could give him to “fix” it, so we just have to wait it out. Last night was another long night. Hayden had a fever pretty much all-night and tossed and turned…therefore, so did I. Because of being tired and Hayden being sick my house cleaning has been a little neglected, so today I have been cleaning all day. It is my worst fear that someone will knock on the door and ask to look at the house while it is a disaster. Hayden is sleeping now- that makes me happy!
