Why do we go camping?

For one of our family reunions this past weekend we went camping to Silver Creek Plunge. If you aren't oblivious to the news you know well that camp fires are not allowed, so it was a little different than any camping trip we had been on in the past. This was Hayden's first time camping. We think he liked it, except at night. The first night he woke up about every fifteen minutes... so, we did not sleep at all. He was very confused about where he was, and probably cold. The second night was a little better, were were all just numb from the first night. Luckily since we weren't able to have a fire we kept warm in a cook tent, heated by propane stoves. There was also a motor home there which made it a little more bearable. One morning while huddled in the cook tent, trying to stay warm, we all looked at each other and asked why do we do this? Why would anyone choose to sleep on the hard ground, freeze at night, and do their business in an outhouse? We all laughed and realised despite those things camping is still fun! Hayden had a blast playing in the dirt. We, however, did not have a blast cleaning him up! The best thing after camping is going home, taking a shower and sleeping in your own bed!

I haven't been camping in forever and I've really wanted to go...but now I wonder why? Actually, I still want to go even though there are things about camping that really do stink.

I went camping 3 times last summer trying to get Kendyl to like it because I LOVE it so much. Makenzie loves camping too so I was sure it was only a matter of time until Kendyl realized it was fun. Too bad she never did. We've been too busy this summer, but we are definitely going to camp in the back yard soon and go next summer at least. :) I think it gets better as they get older.
